"I have finally gotten settled into the university at Thailand and wanted to check in with you guys… I found right away that my adviser, Aj. Angkana, is very supportive of me leading my own hypothesis from a cultural rather than botanical perspective and she is enabling me to lead my own individual mini-project. This is very lucky as she is planning on taking me on several observational trips to hill tribe villages where I will be making cultural comparisons for which I think I will pursue analyses of the effects of cultural/ideological change and Thai state policies. This is something my anthropology colleagues and I only dreamed of! I can see my graduate thesis developing already as this has cross-cultural implications for my research… I would definitely recommend you check out this [CSUF-SMRT] program. This would be a fantastic chance for you to pursue a small research project in the field (whether you work with the professor's project or push your own hypotheses)! I will also be recommending the program to another friend of mine in Wildlife Conservation, as the popular topic here is reforestation and conservation… I hope everything is going well for you guys in California, and I hope you had/will have a good time on the Mojave trip! If you are at all interested in the goings-on here in Thailand you can follow my blog at sawasdeekabeth.tumblr.com."
